Textile Cutting

Trotec laser cutters can cut a wide variety of textiles quickly and easily. Lasers cut filter material, linen, fleece, insulating material, cotton, leather and more. The laser can even cut strong materials such as Kevlar. A variety of textiles can be labelled quickly and easily with a Trotec laser. The individualisation of items of clothing in particular, e.g. jeans or leather, is becoming more and more popular because of laser technology – this is totally economic even at batch size 1. There is no other technology that can carry out this labelling so cost-effectively and so quickly.

As compared to traditional cutting methods the laser offers several advantages:

Fast cutting speed

A great deal of flexibility

Non-contact and tool-free process

Clean, perfectly sealed edges – no fraying!!

The "nesting" feature guarantees the economical use of materials

Easy handling

Very cost-effective, even in small batch sizes

Laser cutting cotton, silk, felt, lace, synthetic & technical textiles, aramid, polyester, fleece

A Trotec laser can quickly and easily cut a diverse range of textiles and fabrics. You can cut textiles like linen, cotton, silk and felt with a laser, plus many more. Trotec lasers can even be used for laser cutting strong materials such as Kevlar® or other technical textiles.

How does laser cutting and engraving of textiles work?

Laser engraving refines the surface of the material used which increases the fabric quality. Unlike printing, laser engraving produces a haptic effect. The benefits of using a Trotec laser to engrave or cut textiles are its speed, flexibility and precision. Also, the nesting feature included in the laser software ensures economical use of the fabrics by no wastage.

What designs can I cut with a fabric laser cutter?

Whether engraving fleece or producing extravagant form cuts on curtains or lace, a Trotec laser offers incredible design options. Using a Trotec laser virtually any design can be precisely replicated.

What are the advantages of laser cutting compared to conventional cutting processes?

Laser cutting is a 'contact less' and tool free process. There is no contact between the cutter and the material, and consequently no warping of fabrics occurs during the process. The laser beam melts the material and the result is clean, perfectly sealed edges. It is also guaranteed when you use a Trotec laser there will be no fraying of the finished product.

Can I cut all materials equally well with the laser?

Synthetic materials respond very well to laser cutting, these often contain plastic or polyester. The laser beam melts polyester in a controlled manner, which ensures non fraying edges. When cutting organic textiles like cotton or linen with the laser, the produced cutting edge will show some brown discoloration, similar to that produced by wood. This effect can be slightly compensated for by selecting the correct lens and laser parameters, and by using compressed air.
